Closing intervention at COP30

Summary

As one half of the Environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (ENGO) Constituency at the UNFCCC, DCJ intervenes at plenaries and dialogues during the climate talks to hold governments accountable and ensure that parties get to hear peoples' demands and critiques. The UNFCCC mandates formal representation of civil society and speakers representing DCJ are given 30 second to 1 minute slots to intervene on critical issues.

I am Gael Guadarrama speaking on behalf of ENGO-DCJ. I am from México, where our peoples have suffered the expansion of ecocide, imperialism and organized crime.

This ‘COP of Truth’ has shown once again that this is not enough. NOT inside these walls, and NOT within this extractive, decaying economic system.

Despite fossil fuel lobbyists, Global North’s blocking tactics, scapegoats and false solutions, COP30 has delivered some necessary advances on the Just Transition Mechanism. We REJECT any attempts to financialise our territories through schemes like TFFF, and assert the urgent need for PUBLIC, grant-based climate finance.

Global North must lead in a transition away from fossil fuels and fund the transition in the Global South.

This COP showed that the real direction of climate action comes from people-led, community-rooted solutions. We will continue to fight inside the Convention, but it is the power of the peoples and movements that will deliver the transformation needed.

VIVA LO COMÚN. Y la lucha sigue.
