Global North blockers post Trump-pullout: Climate inaction at the heart of the Empire

Belém, Brazil—The absence of any formal US presence at COP30 has seen other developed countries step forward to lead efforts defending the interests of those who got rich first by burning fossil fuels. While ex-US officials still roam the halls and huddle in the rooms, the UK and the EU have become lead blockers of climate justice, obstructing everything from the creation of a political space to advance climate finance delivery to the ‘Glasgow goal’ of doubling adaptation finance, by posing as phaseout champions while claiming their budgets are busted. Bumping up their NATO spending annually from 2% to 5% of GDP and appeasing President Trump with more fossil fuel purchases has put them in a difficult-to-defend position, but their shameless insistence on being climate leaders continues in Belem.
Join climate experts, activists and campaigners from the Global Campaign to Demand Climate Justice (DCJ) at the DCJ Press Conference to remind the leaders of the Northern countries—The world is watching.
